Mental health and wellbeing among Egyptian medical students: a cross-sectional study

Abstract Background Medical students are prone to experience high levels of stress during their studies, which can lead burnout and mental health disorders such as anxiety depression, that affect academic performance ability practice. We therefore conducted an online survey collect data on demographics, sources stress, problems, burnout, substance use in 547 medical from two universities Cairo. used the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI), General Health Questionnaire 12 (GHQ-12), CAGE questionnaire. Results Our results indicated 16% participants were diagnosed with a illness while school, 88% screening positive for OLBI, 63% reaching threshold cases GHQ-12 9% There was statistically significant correlation between scores OLBI GHQ-12. Conclusions study there very psychological distress (burnout, illness) among students, rates disengagement exhaustion.
